The Scotland international joined the Reds from Glasgow City in July 2023, helping them finish fourth in the Women’s Super League (WSL) during her debut season. Her initial two-year deal was due to expire in three months, but she’s now staying on Merseyside. “It feels amazing,” Clark told Liverpool’s website. “Obviously it feels like home here, so I’m delighted.”

Liverpool hasn’t confirmed how long Clark’s new contract is for. The 23-year-old, who has won 18 senior caps for her country, has already made 46 appearances for the Reds, scoring the winning goal against Manchester United last May.

Clark was asked whether he decision to stay on Merseyside was a no-brainer. She replied: “100 percent. Liverpool to me feels like home, in the club, in the city and I’ve enjoyed a good year-and-a-half here already so I’m looking forward to the future.”

On her aims for the future, Clark added: “For us as a team, we just want to finish this season on a high and as strong as we can. For me individually, I just want to carry on and try to help the team as much as I can.”

While Liverpool finished fourth in the WSL last season, this term has been a bit trickier. The Reds are sixth in the table, 11 points behind Manchester City in fourth and a whopping 21 points leader Chelsea. Head coach Matt Beard was fired in February.

Amber Whiteley has taken over the team on an interim basis and things are looking up. Liverpool defeated Man Utd 3-1 at Anfield last Friday, with more than 15,000 attending the game. A brace from Olivia Smith and Fuka Nagano’s goal was enough for the win.

“To get our first win (at Anfield) against United, I don’t think we could have done that against better opposition,” continued Clark. “It’s a massive occasion when Liverpool play United so to get the win at Anfield was special.”

The Reds also have a shot at FA Cup glory, having won away at Arsenal in the quarterfinals earlier this month. Whiteley’s players will face Chelsea in the semifinals next month, with a Wembley final against either Man City or Man Utd waiting for the winner.

In other news, Whiteley has appointed Niamh Russell to the position of interim assistant coach. It’s a promotion for Russell, who has stepped up from her role as the assistant coach of LFC Women’s Pro Game Academy. She will continue to work with the club’s U21s.

Russell said: “I moved down from Glasgow for the position as U21s assistant coach here at Liverpool. I’ve been here for the past two years working within the academy programme, seeing the great progress there and where the staff have been brilliant to me.

“In Scotland, I was with Rangers, working in their girls’ academy as U16s head coach and U19s assistant, which was great. I was also working within the Scottish FA with some involvement in the youth national team set-up.”
