About all that talk of an exit from Bayern Munich.,..let’s forget about it, eh?

At the 2017 Confederations Cup, there was a young, German midfielder wowing observers — it was Leon Goretzka.

That tournament helped the now 30-year-old cement himself as a one of Germany’s top, young talents and eventually led him to a deal with Bayern Munich.

Since that point, Goretzka has had a lot of ups and some downs, but — curiously — the midfielder had fallen out of favor with coaches, fans, and even some within the Bayern Munich front office for one reason or another.

Just last summer, Max Eberl spoke openly about Goretzka not being in the clubs future plans.

My how things have changed.

Per Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich has backed off of its stance and the former Schalke 04 man could have a future in Bavarian after all:

The future of Leon #Goretzka at FC Bayern is currently open in all directions, with a summer stay absolutely possible.

Unlike in the summer of 2024, Bayern are not actively pushing for a sale at the moment. If he stays, a contract extension could become an option – but there are no negotiations yet.

His contract runs until 2026, with a current salary of up to €18m gross per season.

While not set in stone, it does appear that Goretzka might have a role moving forward at Bayern Munich after all. Regardless, Goretzka will have to continue to prove himself and show that he is worthy of — maybe — getting another deal from the Bavarians.

At this point, though, it just looks like the only thing that is happening is Eberl will likely refrain from publicly trying to push Goretzka out the door (again).

Looking for a stroll back into history where we breakdown Julian Nagelsmann’s sacking at Bayern Munich, why things unraveled the way they did, and how it set off the chain of events that led us to where we are today? Awesome, we’ve also got a Listener Q&A and some thoughts on the latest Bayern-related transfer rumors. You can get all of that on the latest edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works — Weekend Warm-up Show, which is available on Patreon, Spotify, or below:
