The post-Harry Kane era planning has begun…

According to a report from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich has Mainz 05 and German national team striker Jonathan Burkardt on its radar.

However, Plettenberg also notes that Burkardt is just one of “several names” under consideration:

Excl | Jonathan #Burkardt is on FC Bayern’s list. The 24-y/o Mainz striker is one of several names being considered by Bayern as a versatile backup for Harry #Kane.

Bayern have all the relevant information and appreciate his profile. He would be affordable. Burkardt’s agency, the same as Manuel Neuer’s, has maintained excellent contacts with the club for years.

It remains open whether Bayern will make a concrete move. His contract runs until 2027.

Burkardt did not have a banner game for Germany vs. Italy on Thursday, but he is widely-regarded as a very solid talent. With an eventual successor needed for Harry Kane (perhaps even one who would be willing to do a one-year apprenticeship next season), he could become an interesting figure for the Bavarians.
