We are talking everything Bayern Munich every day…

In the event that you missed the news from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg on Friday, it appears that Bayern Munich is considering Mainz 05 striker Jonathan Burkardt as a potential successor to Harry Kane.

Burkardt, who struggled against Italy for Germany on Thursday, does have 42 goals and 14 goals in 132 games since making his first team debut during the 2019/20 season. This season, Burkardt has been integral in Mainz 05’s resurgence and has 16 goals and three assists in 23 games across all competitions.

That said, filling Kane’s boots would not be an easy task for anyone. Would Burkardt be up to the task? That is a fair question.

Around these parts in recent years, we have advocated for Erling Haaland, which is an extremely long shot to say the least (you basically have to hope that Manchester City fails to to qualify for the Champions League, Real Madrid realizes that it cannot possible handle another big ego, left-footer) and Benjamin Šeško, who RB Leipzig holds a lucrative release clause on. Getting either of those two players will be challenging — and time is beginning to tick on Kane’s tenure in Bavaria.

Most expected Kane to leave in the summer of 2026, but it is at least somewhat conceivable that the Englishman could see out his deal through the 2026/27 season.

Regardless, Bayern Munich has to start its contingency planning, so tell us BFW community, can Burkardt be the man after the man?
