Chelsea player who won Champions League looks ‘unrecognisable’ in Liverpool charity game

Fans have been left gobsmacked after spotting a former Chelsea star who looks completely unrecognisable these days.

On Saturday a squad of former Blues took on Liverpool legends in a stacked charity game at Anfield. Legendary Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard was back in red, linking up with the likes of Sami Hyypia, Dirk Kuyt, Yossi Benayoun, Ryan Babel and Djibril Cisse.

Peter Crouch was the match-winner in the 2-0 victory, rolling back the years by bagging a brace and performing his robot celebration.

As for Chelsea, they had Gianfranco Zola, Claude Makelele, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, John Obi Mikel, Eidur Gudjohnsen and Jose Bosingwa in the side managed by former player and manager Roberto Di Matteo.

But also in the starting XI was former midfielder Ramires, who played an integral role in the club’s memorable Champions League triumph under Di Matteo – though he was suspended for the final for having too many yellow cards.

The Brazilian also won the Premier League, FA Cup, Europa League and League Cup and racked up 251 appearances after signing from Benfica in 2010.

But supported were stunned to see his drastic change in appearance. In his pomp at Chelsea, Ramires sported a shaved head and his incredibly slight frame allowed him to get around the pitch.

Yet, as shown in pictures which circulated on social media, Ramires now has a full set of hair and looks like a completely different person.

Sharing the training snaps on Instagram, Ramires wrote: “Today I had the pleasure of training again at Cobham and reuniting with great friends I made while defending Chelsea.

“Tomorrow is game day for Chelsea Legends! Come on, Blues!”

Reacting to his look, one fan on X said: “Absolutely unrecognisable hope someone is not scamming Chelsea.”

A second joked: “That’s not Ramires, that’s his brother Ramores.”

A third chimed in: “No way that’s the same guy he’s sent a friend.”

A fourth user wrote: “That cannot be the same player ?!?!?!?!?”

Ramires left Chelsea in January 2016, becoming one of many Brazilians to move to the Chinese Super League after sealing a then-record £25 million switch.

He joined Jiangsu Suning and played 71 times before he was released and finished his career back in Brazil with Palmeiras.
