TBR Football can exclusively confirm the latest around Myles Lewis-Skelly’s future at Arsenal in wake of his dream debut for England.
The 18-year-old has had a season to remember, breaking into the Arsenal first-team squad and becoming a key player for Mikel Arteta.
Thomas Tuchel rewarded Lewis-Skelly with a call-up to the England squad and named him in the starting XI for the World Cup qualifier against Albania.
Lewis-Skelly then rewarded Tuchel’s faith with the first goal of the game, racing onto a Jude Bellingham through-ball and slotting home.
Lewis-Skelly’s current contract is believed to run until 2026, but there’s now an exciting update on this front.
New Arsenal contract for Myles Lewis-Skelly set to be finalised in coming weeks
TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Lewis-Skelly is close to finalising his new contract with Arsenal.
The 18-year-old stole the headlines after scoring on his England debut in Tuchel’s opening game – which saw them beat Albania 2-0.
The Gunners left-back signed his first professional contract just after his 18th birthday last year, but his progress has been outstanding and that is due to be rewarded.
We understand that Arsenal have been in talks with Lewis-Skelly’s representatives since January and a deal is now close to be finalised and it is set to be finalised in the coming weeks.
There are no issues and he will soon commit to the club on a new long-term deal.
What Thomas Tuchel said about Myles Lewis-Skelly after England debut
Speaking after England’s 2-0 win over Albania, Tuchel praised Lewis-Skelly’s confidence, humour and openness around the England camp.
“He was amazing in camp,” said Tuchel. “Full of confidence, full of humour. Such an open character.
“You see everything on the pitch, off the pitch. He does it with a natural confidence.
“That’s how he plays football. Full of courage and quality. He was decisive and opened this game for us.”
Tuchel also said Lewis-Skelly’s best position is where he currently plays for Arsenal, namely the left double six, inverted role.
“He played as a No 8 or 10,” Tuchel continued. “I think his best position is where he plays for Arsenal in the left double six, inverted role.
“If you see him in possession games in training, the quality of first touch, body movement, how he plays the passes is a very high understanding of the game.
“He’s very versatile, can do a lot of things. We tried to play more conventional today because there are many players for different clubs.”
Rio Ferdinand was buzzing after Lewis-Skelly scored, while the English press also sung Lewis-Skelly’s praises.
