‘My heart started to pound’: Arsenal star absolutely stunned by big news he received yesterday morning

Arsenal star Myles Lewis-Skelly is the talk of the town after enjoying a perfect England debut in Friday’s 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Albania.

The Arsenal academy graduate has had an incredible season so far, making his breakthrough and becoming a key player in Mikel Arteta’s squad.

New England manager Thomas Tuchel rewarded Lewis-Skelly with a call-up and subsequently named him in the starting XI against Albania.

Lewis-Skelly then made history by becoming the youngest ever player to score on his England debut, along with becoming the first scorer of the Tuchel era.

After just 20 minutes, the Arsenal ace ran onto Jude Bellingham’s through-ball and slotted home first-time to send the Wembley crowd into a frenzy.

Lewis-Skelly, speaking to the press after the game, revealed what was going through his mind when he received his call-up and also as he scored.

Arsenal star Myles Lewis-Skelly found out about England start on morning of Albania game

Lewis-Skelly admitted that he was “lost for words” in wake of an incredible six months in which he has risen to the top of the game.

He also talked fans through the goal and then revealed that he found out he’d be starting for England on the morning of the match.

“I am lost for words,” Lewis-Skelly told BBC Radio 5 Live. “This past six months have gone so quickly. I stay in the present and I take every moment as it comes.”

On his goal, he said: “All I remember is staying wide and rotating with Marcus Rashford. Jude loves to stay on the half-turn. It was a great pass from him and the timing was very good.

“The finish, the keeper was coming at me, and I tried to put it between the legs… I didn’t even think I was going to score!”

Lewis-Skelly then told reporters: “I found out in the morning in the meeting and when I saw my name my heart started to pound – I was so excited.

“So many message before the game. They are all here tonight and it means the world to them. Honestly, it is incredible – this is a day I’ll never forget.”

How Myles Lewis-Skelly fared against Albania

The key moment for Lewis-Skelly was his historic goal, but his overall play was impressive too.

Lewis-Skelly was combative, winning all three of his ground duels. He also got plenty of touches on the ball, and was accurate in his passing.
