Heung-Min Son has played with some seriously quick footballers over the years.
Indeed, Destiny Udogie is one of the fastest players in the Premier League, while Son himself was one of the quickest players around at the peak of his powers.
Speaking to Goal, Son has now been asked to name the fastest player he has ever seen on a football pitch, and he gave an interesting answer.
Son has seen played with and against some of the fastest players in history – from Adama Traore to Mohamed Salah.
However, according to the Spurs captain, Micky van de Ven is the fastest player he has ever seen.
Van de Ven is the Premier League’s quickest player according to the numbers, and Son has attested to just how quick the Dutchman is.
Micky van de Ven is the fastest player Heung-Min Son has seen
Son responded when asked the fastest player he has ever seen.
The Korean didn’t even hesitate when naming Van de Ven as the fastest player he has seen.
Van de Ven has been praised for his pace on numerous occasions in the past.
“Who is the fastest player you have ever seen?” Son was asked.
“Micky van de Ven,” Son said.
“Oh he is quick, that assist against Manchester United,” The host said.
“He is quick,” Son said.
Who are Tottenham’s fastest players?
Son says Van de Ven is Spurs’ fastest player, and he’s not wrong.
Indeed, according to The Speeds Database, Van de Ven is Spurs’ quickest player by some distance.
Meanwhile, Son is actually Tottenham’s second-quickest player at the moment.
Tottenham’s fastest players | Top speed (km/h) |
---|---|
Micky van de Ven | 37.38 |
Heung-Min Son | 34.5 |
Cristian Romero | 33.21 |
Pedro Porro | 33.1 |
Dejan Kulusevski | 32.1 |
Remarkably, Cristian Romero is also among Spurs’ fastest players, so Van de Ven and Romero do make a seriously quick centre-back partnership when both men are fit.
Unfortunately for Spurs, Romero and Van de Ven are rarely fit together at the same time these days, and that’s played a massive part in Tottenham’s demise this season as Spurs sit 15th in the Premier League.
Spurs have plenty of speed in their squad, but, unfortunately, pace doesn’t always create points, as we’ve seen this term.
