Liverpool have had some bitter departures over the years.

Indeed, Fernando Torres left Liverpool under a dark cloud as he made a deadline day move to Chelsea in 2011.

Torres would flop at Chelsea though, making it much easier for Liverpool fans to cope with his departure.

Meanwhile, John Aldridge never wanted to leave Liverpool, but he was forced to go, while Ryan Babel said leaving Liverpool was his biggest regret.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Robbie Fowler has been discussing Luis Suarez, and the Reds legend says that Suarez’s departure from Anfield rubbed him up the wrong way.

Indeed, Fowler says that he would’ve loved to have played with Suarez, labelling him a ‘phenomenal’ player, but he really didn’t like the way he left Liverpool.

Robbie Fowler didn’t like how Luis Suarez left Liverpool

Fowler spoke about Suarez’s ability, but, more poignantly, he criticised the striker for the way he left Liverpool.

Suarez would join Barcelona from Liverpool in 2014, and Fowler didn’t like the way that deal came about.

“One player you never got to play with but wish you did?” Fowler was asked.

“Luis Suarez. I think Luis Suarez was a phenomenal player, obviously I didn’t like the way he left Liverpool, in all fairness, but he’s a player I would’ve loved to have played with,” Fowler said.

How did Luis Suarez leave Liverpool?

Fowler says that he didn’t like the way Suarez left Liverpool, and his frustration here is understandable.

Suarez left Anfield to join Barcelona in 2014, just a few months after taking the Reds to the brink of the Premier League title and back into the Champions League.

Suarez didn’t stay at Liverpool to try to win the league or see how far this group could go in Europe, he jumped ship at the first possible opportunity.

Just 12 months prior, Suarez spoke about how much he wanted to play in the Champions League as he pushed to join another team amid a £40m bid from Arsenal.

“Last year I had the opportunity to move to a big European club and I stayed on the understanding that if we failed to qualify for the Champions League the following season I’d be allowed to go,”I gave absolutely everything last season but it was not enough to give us a top-four finish – now all I want is for Liverpool to honour our agreement,” Suarez said, via The Guardian.

The summer of 2014 was also noteworthy for Suarez as he received a lengthy ban from football for biting Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.

Suarez left Liverpool when they were on the brink of achieving something special, and while that was probably the right move for the Uruguayan as he’d achieve so much at Camp Nou, it did leave a bitter taste in Liverpool fans’ mouths, especially Robbie Fowler’s.
