I just want both teams to win…
Bayern Munich has taken down Celtic and Bayer Leverkusen so far in the Champions League knockout stages on their search for a seventh European title. They got Inter Milan next in the Quarterfinals, and an alum of both teams wanted this matchup to come later in the campaign.
“They are my two favorite teams and I’m not very happy with this quarter,” Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said in an interview with Corriere (as captured by Twitter account @iMiaSanMia). “I don’t like the idea that one of the two has to be eliminated — I would have preferred to face Inter in the final.”
“Kalle” played with the Nerrazurri from 1984 to 1987 after a decade long stint with the Rekordmeister; he had achieved individual and group accolades with both teams. The last time both teams met was the 2010 Champions League final, which went the Italians’ way and condemned Bayern to their fourth final defeat at that stage after 1982, 1987, and 1999.
