Former England manager Fabio Capello has praised Arne Slot on the impressive start to his Liverpool career and how well he has adapted to stepping into Jurgen Klopp’s shoes.
Slot is on course to finish his debut season as Liverpool manager by securing the Premier League title—an achievement few anticipated at the start of the campaign. A combination of players reaching peak form and rivals faltering has paved the way for Liverpool to claim only their second Premier League crown, with the Dutchman likely to seal the triumph with games to spare.
Surpassing records even Klopp couldn’t achieve, the Dutchman has proven to be an inspired appointment, seamlessly continuing the legacy left by the German icon at Anfield.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Capello has offered his verdict on Slot’s tenure so far on Merseyside. The legendary Italian coach has praised Slot for how seamlessly the former Feyenoord boss has adapted to life at Liverpool, admitting even he has been surprised by the Dutchman’s impact.
With Slot aiming to strengthen the squad in the summer, Liverpool have a real opportunity to build on their success, setting their sights on European and domestic cup glory next season. Capello, who previously managed AC Milan and Real Madrid, has been particularly impressed, drawing comparisons between Slot’s start at Anfield and his own early experiences at the San Siro with the Rossoneri.
“To do this after Jurgen Klopp, who I liked, is incredible. It’s a bit like my career” said Capello. “I arrived at AC Milan after Arrigo Sacchi and everyone said the team is finished, that they don’t like to work any more, they had won too many trophies. I think it’s more or less the same.”

Despite a tough week that saw Liverpool exit the UEFA Champions League and lose the Carabao Cup final to Newcastle United, the Dutchman’s first season at Anfield will still be remembered as a resounding success.
