Julian Alvarez stance on summer transfer emerges as Liverpool could revisit deal after failed move

Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez is believed to be eager to remain at the La Liga club in summer despite Liverpool’s renewed interest in the striker.

The Reds have reportedly been keeping tabs on the former Manchester City player ahead of the upcoming transfer window after Alvarez’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, confirmed that Liverpool was interested in signing the striker from the Etihad side last summer. The 25-year-old, now linked with a potential move to Anfield once again, made over 100 appearances for City but grew frustrated playing second-fiddle to Erling Haaland.

Since joining Atletico Madrid, Alvarez has thrived as the team’s main striker, averaging more than a goal every two games. Had A rne Slot had his way, the Argentine could have been wearing Liverpool’s colors this season.

Former Manchester United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown has cast doubt on Liverpool’s pursuit of Alvarez, telling Football Insider that a deal for the 25-year-old is unlikely.

Alvarez is reportedly happy and settled in Madrid, with no plans to leave just a year after his unexpected move from Manchester City. As a result, Liverpool are expected to shift focus to alternative attacking targets in the upcoming transfer window.

Brown also revealed that Liverpool is aiming to sign a world-class forward this summer and may offload some of its current attacking options. Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Diogo Jota have all been linked with potential exits due to growing frustrations behind the scenes.

Mohamed Salah has been Liverpool’s primary goal scorer this season, but uncertainty over his future remains due to stalled contract negotiations.

Brown said: “Julian Alvarez is a top player, an undoubted talent, I can think of a few teams who would like a player like him in their side. I was surprised he left Man City – did they think he didn’t quite fit the bill and they preferred somebody like Marmoush who has now come in?

“Or was it a decision on his side because he wasn’t getting in the team ahead of Haaland? Either way, he’s a quality player and he’s been able to show that since moving to Atletico.

“I’ve heard talk about a potential move to Liverpool, but just a year after he left City I’m not convinced that one’s likely to happen. I think he’s one they’ve looked at to see whether he might be an option, but it’s not gone any further.

“He’s settled and happy where he is at the moment, I don’t think he’s looking to move. Plus, Atletico Madrid are not going to want to sell, it would have to be a huge deal. Liverpool do want to strengthen up front, but they’ll have to look elsewhere.”
