Liverpool gets Alexander Isak ‘boost’ as huge obstacle removed

Liverpool could be in pole position to sign Newcastle United’s star striker Alexander Isak, with the Reds frequently linked with the Swedish international ahead of the summer transfer window.

Isak has been a standout performer for the Magpies this season, netting 23 goals across all competitions, including two against Liverpool – one of which was the decisive goal in last week’s Carabao Cup final loss. The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have also reportedly shown interest in acquiring Isak’s services come summer.

However, a recent update may tilt the scales in Liverpool‘s favor. Spanish publication Sport suggests that while Barcelona maintains an interest in Isak, it is unlikely to table an offer this summer due to concerns about registering him with La Liga, a situation reminiscent of their issues with Dani Olmo earlier this season.

Consequently, Barcelona’s focus appears to be on retaining their current squad members beyond the summer, potentially giving Liverpool an edge in the race for Isak, should the Spanish giants shift their priorities. However, it’s worth noting that Newcastle are not keen on letting Isak go this summer.

There’s been talk of a hefty price tag for the Magpies’ star striker, with figures floating around the $129 million mark, and some even suggesting it could reach as high as $193.8 million.

Liverpool, on the other hand, has Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota leading its line, with Luis Diaz also stepping into the centre-forward role this season. Whether the Reds will be in the market for a new striker come summer is yet to be seen.
