Cristian Romero opens up on injury frustrationsWill Cristian Romero sign a new contract at Tottenham?

Romero’s long-awaited return from a hamstring injury came 86 days after he picked up the issue and he claims his recovery took longer than initially expected.

The Tottenham Hotspur defender has revealed his frustration at the situation and how he had to return to his home country to work with the national team’s doctors to speed up the process.

Romero is not yet fit enough to play both of Argntina’s matches during the international break which could see him miss a crucial World Cup qualifier against Brazil.

Cristian Romero opens up on injury frustrations

Cristian Romero has revealed his frustration at how long it took for him to get back fit and how he had to return to Argentina to work with the national team’s medical staff.

The 26-year-old says he should have returned sooner than he did, however, further complications delayed him getting back on the pitch.

Romero, who cost £42m, told TyC Sports: “I didn’t have a good few months because it was an injury that I could have returned much sooner from, but nothing happened. Everything became very complicated.

“I’m always grateful that the national team’s medical team was able to get me out of that bad moment and get me back on the field, which is what I like to do, what makes me happy. I’m grateful to the national team’s physiotherapist for getting me back on the field.”

Will Cristian Romero sign a new contract at Tottenham?

Tottenham want Romero to become their highest earner with his current contract due to run until 2027 and there being big interest from major European clubs.

Real Madrid are keen on Romero and another season of no Champions League football could force him to push for a move away from North London.

TBR Football revealed back in December that Romero wanted Champions League football if he was to sign at Tottenham, however, at this stage, that looks highly unlikely.
