Manchester United have been struggling for form this season and much of that have been due to the lack of consistent goals for the side. United are in need of a reliable goalscorer who can chip in with goals consistently. Rasmus Hojlund has struggled for form and so has Joshua Zirkzee after the big-money move to Old Trafford last summer.
United would want to sign a world-class striker in the summer and for that to happen, they will need money. The Red Devils are in a financial issue; they would need to sell some of their first-team players for big money in order to afford a good signing. Fichajes has reported that Antonio Conte has asked Napoli to sign Zirkzee from United in the summer.
Napoli want to sign Joshua Zirkzee from Manchester United
The 23-year-old striker was performing sensationally well in Serie A with Bologna and hence won’t have any issues returning back to a big club in the Italian league. He will be able to restart his career on fresh terms in a friendly environment where he has thrived. The Serie A club are set to sell Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window and United are also linked to the Nigerian.
On his best days, Joshua Zirkzee transforms into a striker who’s pure box office. The Dutch forward, now at Manchester United, possesses elegance with lethal instinct. His 6’4” frame belies a silky touch—controlling the ball like a playmaker before unleashing venomous shots. Zirkzee’s movement is clever, drifting into pockets to link play or peeling off defenders to finish. He has a great vision in tight spaces, picking passes that carve open defences. Confidence oozes as Zirkzee takes on opponents with swaggering dribbles. In form, he is a nightmare for centre-backs: tall, technical, and ruthless—a complete forward who can dominate games single-handedly.
Zirkzee has scored 3 goals in 29 matches so far in the Premier League 2024/2025 season. He has amassed a G/A of 4 for this season so far. His goal involvement equates to 0.29 per 90 minutes.
What should the Red Devils do?
For a Manchester United fan, selling Joshua Zirkzee to Napoli in the summer feels tempting but tricky. Conte’s interest is no shock—Zirkzee was electric at Bologna, and Serie A suits him. He has floundered at United, though, lacking the consistency that the club desperately need up top. If United offload him for £40-50 million, it could fund a move for Victor Osimhen, a proven goal machine who’d solve their scoring woes. Hojlund’s potential isn’t clicking yet, and Zirkzee’s misfiring doesn’t help their shaky season. Cashing in might reset Manchester United—bring in a reliable striker and lift this team out of its rut. Tough call, but maybe worth it.
