Arsenal tried hard for the Premier League title this season but might not be able to secure the title given that Liverpool are the favorites to win the title. The Gunners have been on a transformative path under Mikel Arteta and they would want to go for the Premier League title next season. For that to happen, the club will need to strengthen the squad and cover all bases in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Arsenal have been interested in Bruno Guimaraes

Caught Offside has earlier reported that the Reds are displaying interest in signing Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United in the summer. The Magpies tied him up to a new contract in 2023 and he is a very integral part of their squad. The 27-year-old has been a standout midfielder for the squad and his performances have attracted the attention of multiple clubs.

Guimaraes has scored 3 goals in 28 matches so far in the Premier League 2024/2025 season. He has amassed a total G/A of 9 for this season. Guimaraes passes the ball roughly 46.68 times during a game with a pass completion rate of 83.29%. He also plays 1.40 key passes each game. Overall, Guimaraes’s xA (expected assists) output is 0.27 per 90 minutes.

Newcastle United’s Brazilian midfielder has quickly become a fan favourite with his dynamic playing style. Known for his smooth ball control and vision, he dictates the tempo of matches with ease. His passing range is exceptional, effortlessly switching play or threading precise balls through tight defences.

Guimaraes combines tenacity with technique, often breaking up opposition moves with well-timed tackles before launching counterattacks. His work rate is relentless, covering every blade of grass, while his composure under pressure adds a calming influence in midfield. With flair, intelligence, and a knack for big moments, Guimaraes embodies the modern midfielder—versatile, gritty, and undeniably talented.

Fabrizio Romano provides an update

Fabrizio Romano talked about Guimaraes’s links with Arsenal and he stated that Arsenal were interested in the midfielder when Edu Gaspar was the sporting director, as both of them are Brazilians. Now, Andrea Berta is the Director and Romano is not aware of any concrete links of the midfielder with Arsenal despite many reports here and there.

Speaking about the situation on his YouTube channel, he said: “We are having many reports on Bruno Guimaraes, reports about Arsenal and other clubs interested in Bruno Guimaraes. What I am able to tell you today is that despite all of the stories involving Arsenal, I’m not aware of any concrete negotiation or concrete contact between Arsenal or Bruno Guimaraes. He was on the list when the director was Edu Gaspar, they’re Brazilians, so the connection is there. Now the new director is Andrea Berta, and at the moment I’m not aware of any direct contact for Bruno Guimaraes and Arsenal.”

As an Arsenal fan, it will be frustrating to hear Fabrizio Romano pour cold water on the Bruno Guimaraes rumors. Back when Edu Gaspar was calling the shots, the Brazilian connection made sense—Guimaraes’ flair and tenacity screamed the perfect fit for Arsenal’s midfield. His vision and grit could have elevated the club alongside Rice and Ødegaard. Now, with Andrea Berta in charge, it feels like they have lost that spark of intent. Romano’s “no concrete contact” line would sting—why aren’t Arsenal pushing harder for a player of his calibre? Sure, transfer talk is messy, but Arsenal can’t afford to miss out on talents like Guimaraes if they’re serious about challenging for the top.
