‘Poor’: Scotland’s media deliver worrying Andy Robertson verdict after 3-0 defeat to Greece

Unfortunately for Andrew Robertson, the Liverpool defender was unable to help Scotland as they were overpowered 3-0 by Greece at Hampden Park on Sunday afternoon.

Robertson won his 80th cap in Scotland’s Nations League defeat, which actually confirmed their relegation to League B.

The Liverpool full-back played 73 minutes before being replaced in the second half, a performance that wasn’t quite up to par with his efforts for Scotland away in Greece a few days earlier.

Owing to Arne Slot’s limited rotation, Robertson has played a lot of minutes for Liverpool this season, amassing 39 appearances so far this term.

And like a few others wearing a Liverpool shirt over the last week or so, perhaps those minutes are beginning to take a toll.

That being said, Scottish outlets shared their review of Robertson’s performance in the aftermath of the game – ones that aren’t particularly good reading.

Robertson was said to be at fault for 17-year-old talent Konstantinos Karetas’ goal, and the youngster seemingly identified the Liverpool left-back as someone to target before the game.

Including that information in their 4/10 review, Herald Scotland wrote: “Pre-match, Greece wonderkid Karetsas suggested he could trouble Robertson, unfortunately for Scotland, the 17 -year-old was right.

“Robertson was locked into a defensive role and unable to race forward and cause problems in the opposite direction.

“Raced to shut down free man Konstantelias but left Karetsas free to slam home second for Greece.

And whilst the Scotsman praised some of Robertson’s offensive efforts, they also referenced his role in one of Greece’s three goals.

Giving the 31-year-old a 5/10 they wrote: “Offered an outlet on the left when Scotland went forward, but was poor in stopping the cross that led to the opening goal and left Karetsas for the all-important second.”

And rounding off the 5/10 reviews, Edinburgh News said: “Drilled an early effort wide after McTominay’s shot was saved. Unable to influence much going forward. Subbed.”

Liverpool need to push ahead with Milos Kerkez move

Overall, a frustrating night for Robertson who does appear to be a player who Slot could upgrade on in the summer, as harsh as that may sound.

Robertson has been a superb servant for Liverpool over the years, and he clearly still has an important place in the squad.

But Liverpool do want Milos Kerkez and he would surely provide much better competition than Kostas Tsimikas is providing currently, who was actually left on Greece’s bench during this win over Scotland.

David Ornstein thinks Kerkez could join Liverpool and given the full-backs strong connection with Dominik Szoboszlai, a transfer really does make sense.

Robertson should stay, but perhaps Kerkez should arrive at the expense of Tsimikas, who has never really put down a strong claim to start consistently at Anfield.
