Alexander Isak ‘stance’ on Liverpool transfer as Barcelona roadblock removed

Alexander Isak is said to favor a move to Barcelona this summer, but would not turn down a move to Liverpool if the chance to move to Anfield presented itself.

The Reds are expected to be in the market for a new striker ahead of the 2025-26 season, with Darwin Nunez likely to move on after three underwhelming years at Anfield.

Isak is among the players who have been linked with replacing Nunez, and he would no doubt be a welcome addition to Arne Slot’s squad given the impressive form he has shown since moving to Newcastle in 2022.

Tribune reports that Barcelona is closely monitoring Isak’s situation as it looks for a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who will turn 37 in August.

It is claimed that Isak’s preference is to join Barcelona but that he would not turn down a switch to Liverpool, which sources have apparently said is a club that the 25-year-old has always wanted to play for.

Liverpool is more likely to be able to afford Isak than Barcelona, with the Spanish club having experienced financial issues in recent years that might make signing a player who would certainly cost more than $100 million extremely difficult.

Isak’s power, technical ability, and goal-scoring instinct are reportedly what makes signing him such an appealing prospect to Liverpool, and the Merseyside club is said to already have a good relationship with Isak’s representatives, which could make the deal easier to do.

Isak isn’t the only striker who has been linked with a big-money move to Liverpool, with Harry Kane and Julian Alvarez also said to be on the Reds’ radar.

The link with Kane is the least believable of the three considering his age, the transfer fee he would command, and Liverpool’s transfer policy dictating that the club tends to pursue players in their early to mid-20s.

Alvarez, too, only recently joined a new club, signing for Atletico Madrid from Manchester City in a big-money deal last summer, and he is enjoying a good season in the Spanish capital, scoring 23 goals in 44 games.
