Giulia Gwinn puts Bayern Munich brass on blast for missing out on DFB Pokal semifinal

This is embarrassing.

Bayern Munich Frauen bounced back from a difficult midweek loss against Lyon in the Champions League with a win over Hoffenheim in the semi-final of the DFB Pokal. Bayern was without one of its most influential players, with right-back Giulia Gwinn forced to watch from the sidelines as a result of a leg injury picked up in the match against Lyon.

Gwinn will of course have been frustrated not to have been able to take part, but will have been pleased to watch teammate Pernille Harder net a hattrick to complete an astonishing comeback from 2-0 down after 24 minutes played. It seems, however, that some important figures at the club were unable to witness the display as Gwinn did, given that not a single person in charge of the men’s team was present at the stadium.

In response to the lack of interest displayed by the higher-ups of the club, Sky Sports (via @iMiaSanMia) captured Gwinn sharing her disappointment, saying, “It’s a bit of a pity. I think it’s one of the biggest games when you look at all the competitions.” She continued, explaining that, “[the team is] doing great in the league, so a Pokal semi-final is something you hope [they would] be there for. It’s a real pity. I hope they’re at least watching it on TV.”

What makes this whole situation even more embarrassing is that the men’s players are in the middle of an international break. There really is no good excuse for not showing a little bit of support for the women’s side.
