According to a report by Catalan outlet Cule Mania, Hansi Flick has asked Barcelona to sign Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong in the summer. However, the Spanish club have put a €25 million cap on the signing and will not prefer paying more than that.
Jeremie Frimpong is a quality player
Jeremie Frimpong came through Manchester City academy before moving to Celtic. He eventually joined Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2021, which has worked well for him. The player has settled himself as one of the best wing-backs in the Bundesliga.
Frimpong is enjoying a good time this season on the field as he has four goals and 11 assists in 40 outings so far. He is averaging 1.1 shots, 1.2 key passes, and 0.7 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Dutch player is known for his aggressive style of play and attacking qualities. He is very fast, agile, and excels in dribbling skills. He provides a lot of value going forward while also performing his defensive duties up to the mark.
Liverpool are leading the race for Jeremie Frimpong
Barcelona want to bring full-backs and a left winger to strengthen their squad for next season. Hence, their interest in Jeremie Frimpong is understandable.
Frimpong has those attacking instincts and qualities that will fit well in Hansi Flick’s system. His ability to feature on either side will add to the versatility of the squad. He can be a long-term investment for the club and a potential star in the making.
However, the 24-year-old has a €40 million release clause on his contract. Hence, Barcelona might not be able to lure him away in the summer. Liverpool are also tracking the player amid the uncertainty around Trent Alexander-Arnold and stand a better chance to sign him. Moreover, the Spanish outfit might not be able to guarantee a starting spot to the player.
