A Premier League giant have reportedly emerges as the frontrunners to sign Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane in the summer transfer window.

Kane ended his 19-year association with Tottenham Hotspur, where he scored a club-record 280 goals in 435 games, in order to complete a €100m move to Bayern in August 2023.

The 31-year-old has been at his prolific best for the German giants, recording 76 goals and 23 assists in 82 appearances across all competitions, including 32 goals and 11 assists in 37 outings so far this season.

Kane is on course to win his second consecutive Bundesliga Golden Boot as well as the first major trophy of his career, as Bayern currently sit six points clear of reigning top-flight champions Bayer Leverkusen with eight games left to play – Bayern have also advanced to the Champions League quarter-finals.

Although Kane is enjoying life in Germany and is under contract at the Allianz Arena until June 2027, speculation over a possible return to England has increased in recent weeks.

Man Utd suffer Kane blow as Liverpool become ‘favourites’ to sign striker

Manchester United attempted to sign Kane on numerous occasions before he joined Bayern and it is understood that the Red Devils still hold an interest in the England captain as they seek to recruit a new centre-forward.

A recent report claims that Kane is interested in discussing a return to the Premier League this summer, but instead of making the move to Man United, he is said to be keen to speak with champions-elect Liverpool about a possible switch to Anfield.

Now, El Nacional claims that Kane is indeed ‘seriously considering’ a Premier League return and Liverpool have emerged as the ‘favourites’ to sign the striker ahead of next season.

The report adds that Kane’s willingness to return to England could be decisive if Liverpool’ launch a firm push’ for the striker in the summer.

Kane is open to idea of ending his career back in England and a return to the Premier League would enable him to chase down the all-time Premier League scoring record held by Alan Shearer.

During his time at Spurs, Kane scored 213 Premier League goals, putting him second on the all-time list behind Shearer who found the net 260 times across spells with Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers.

Could Liverpool sign Kane this summer?

Liverpool’s interest in Kane comes at a time when speculation over the futures of several attackers including Mohamed Salah – who is out of contract in June – Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Federico Chiesa and Diogo Jota has surfaced.

Arne Slot has experienced two quiet transfer windows since arriving at Anfield – Chiesa being his only first-team addition from last summer – but the Reds are expected to strengthen their squad in a number of key areas ahead of next season.

Kane – who scored his 70th goal for England in a 2-0 UEFA Nations League win over Albania last Friday – will turn 32 in July, but Liverpool will be fully aware that he is one of the most prolific strikers in world football who has excelled in the Premier League before, while he would represent a cheaper alternative to other targets.

Indeed, it is understood that Kane currently possesses a £67m release clause in his Bayern contract that will reduce to £54m in January – figures which are significantly less than the reported valuations of targets including Alexander Isak, who Newcastle United value in excess of £100m.

In order to generate funds for summer transfers, Liverpool could raise up to £200m from selling a handful of either fringe or under-performing players.
