Jadon Sancho targeted by two clubs as Chelsea find out surprise cost of sending him back to Man Utd

Two clubs are monitoring Jadon Sancho’s situation at Chelsea ahead of a potential summer move, according to reports, as details surrounding his future continue to emerge.

Sancho joined Chelsea on a season-long loan from Manchester United last summer in a deal that includes an obligation to buy for up to £25 million.

It stands as a significant loss on the £73 million that United paid in 2021, when the Premier League club went all out to sign the former England international from German side Borussia Dortmund.

But after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford, a move elsewhere was touted for months until Chelsea secured a move for the player in August last year.

To his credit, Sancho enjoyed an impressive start to life at Stamford Bridge, notching eight goal contributions in 11 games under Enzo Maresca, who was full of praise for the player in January.

The 24-year-old winger has suffered a dip in form of late, with his last goal coming in December, but Chelsea will still sign him permanently in the summer window, despite having the option to back out of the deal.

That’s according to Sky Sports, who claim Chelsea are still expected to sign Sancho permanently following the emergence of a get-out clause.

David Ornstein recently gave an insight into that get-out clause, claiming the Blues could opt against proceeding with the full transfer by giving Manchester United a set fee of just £5 million.

Amid talk around his future, a report from GiveMeSport has claimed that Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund are keeping track of Sancho’s situation ahead of an “opportunistic” offer in the summer.

The report adds: “Even though the Blues agreed to sign him permanently from United, there remains a possibility that they will sell him on from Stamford Bridge, with the Bundesliga duo being interested in his services.”

As mentioned above, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca was full of praise for Sancho in January.

“He is doing very well for me,” Maresca told reporters. “I am quite surprised with Jadon. I knew Jadon already so knew what to expect from him but in terms of being consistent.

“He is doing very well apart from a short spell of the season where he had some problems. Apart from that he has been very good.”

Maresca added: “I expected him to do well but for all players to do well for a long period is not easy. He has done well for a long period.”
