Manchester United have a lot on the table as they approach the end of the season. They have suffered in the ongoing season and have a lot of bases to cover in the summer transfer window. Ruben Amorim will be looking at the best profile of players who could fit his style and do the job for him. However, the club will need to offload a lot of deadwood players and also make significant sales to make big signings while having financial issues.

The Red Devils must be needing quality in the midfield in the season to support Bruno Fernandes. Casemiro and Christian Eriksen might be leaving the club. The future of Kobbie Mainoo is also unclear. So, Manchester United need a quality midfielder and they have been linked with Xavi Simons. However, Give Me Sport has reported a deal for the Spaniard will be too tough to happen in the summer.

The 21-year-old has struggled with injury in the ongoing season but still has performed very well for RB Leipzig. He has scored 7 goals in 18 matches so far in the Bundesliga 2024/2025 season. The midfielder has also amassed a G/A of 11 so far this season. Simons passes the ball roughly 46.81 times during a game with a pass completion rate of 83.60%. He also plays 2.27 key passes each game. Overall, the midfielder’s xA (Expected Assists) output is 0.27 per 90 minutes.

The Dutch prodigy is lighting up RB Leipzig. His technical wizardry shines through in tight spaces—dribbling with a velvet touch that leaves defenders grasping air. Simons’ vision is elite, picking out killer passes or threading the needle for teammates. He has got pace to burn, bursting forward to join attacks, and his work rate off the ball adds grit to his glamour. Whether dropping deep to orchestrate or popping up with a goal, the midfielder’s versatility and football IQ make him a nightmare to contain. All these traits and qualities have made him an attractive prospect for Manchester United.

Should they move for him at that price tag?

However, he is a very important player for Leipzig and has a contract with the club till the summer of 2027. The Bundesliga club will definitely demand a fee of around €80 million if they need to sell him, which currently is out of reach for the Red Devils. Manchester United have a lot of positions to fix. So spending so much on one player with financial issues is close to impossible for them. It will be heartbreaking for the United fans as Simons is a quality midfielder who could have served the Red Devils for a long time and could have been a sensational signing. However, the club should not make a move for him at that price tag.
