The Bundesliga’s biggest coaching sensation will remain at VfB Stuttgart.

There were plenty of rumors around Sebastian Hoeneß in recent times, stemming from the fact that Lawn ball sport Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund have managerial issues. Marco Rose is under heavy, heavy pressure over with The Cans and Niko Kovač, with his contract until 2026, hardly seems like a long term solution for Die Borussen, ergo both clubs were both heavily linked with the VfB Stuttgart manager.

But a departure in the summer is now categorically ruled out following Sebastian Hoeneß’ contract renewal at Die Schwäben, as announced by Stuttgart’s official website:

VfB and its head coach have prematurely extended their contract until June 30, 2028. Assistant coach David Krecidlo has also signed a contract until 2028. Last year, VfB prematurely extended Sebastian Hoeneß’s contract until 2027, and now the contract is renewed until June 30, 2028. At the same time, VfB has also extended the contract with assistant coach David Krecidlo until June 30, 2028. David Krecidlo joined VfB together with Sebastian Hoeneß and is currently completing the German Football Association’s Pro License course alongside his work at VfB.

Though the contract will run another three years, it is a mere one-year extension on the previous contract, which was due to run until 2027. Still, it is a strong statement that Stuttgart intend to retain Hoeneß, who was also linked to Bayern Munich last summer. Some big clubs (and RB Leipzig) wanted Hoeneß, but VfB managed to keep him.

The news is not all positive for Stuttgart, however. The team has taken a step back this season and is, at the time of writing, in a real rut. This contract renewal was a statement from Stuttgart, but also a vote of belief in Hoeneß. Now it is up to him to justify that belief with a strong end of the season run of form as well as a strong push to winning the DFB-Pokal.
