Jadon Sancho will surely have to explain his “freedom” comment to Manchester UnitedWhat Ruben Amorim has said about Jadon Sancho potentially coming back to Old Trafford

The Blues agreed to take the England international on loan back in August 2024 with an obligation to buy him permanently this summer for a fee of £25m – which suggested the winger had played his final game for Manchester United.

However, after just two goals and six assists in 29 appearances so far this season, rumours are emerging that Chelsea could send the Londoner back to Old Trafford, with a £5m penalty charge for breaking the agreed obligatory clause mentioned by The Athletic.

If Jadon Sancho does end up being sent back to Manchester United this summer, he may have to explain himself to those in the boardroom after a comment he made in February.

Jadon Sancho will surely have to explain his “freedom” comment to Manchester United

After Marcus Rashford left Manchester United on loan for Aston Villa in February, Sancho surprisingly wrote “freedom” in the comments section, strongly suggesting that Old Trafford is a toxic place to be right now.

Sancho presumably sent that message under the impression he would not be returning to Manchester United, although if Chelsea opt to pay the penalty and send him back, it could well make for an awkward encounter between the 24-year-old and INEOS.

What Ruben Amorim has said about Jadon Sancho potentially coming back to Old Trafford

When the topic of Sancho – who Anthony Elanga admires – possibly coming back to Manchester United was put to Ruben Amorim in February, the Portuguese coach was quite dismissive of the man from Camberwell.

The Lisbon-born tactician said: “I don’t know. I’m just focused on my players and my problems. Sancho is not my problem. I’m really focused on beating Tottenham and using all the players we have to achieve that. No, no. I’m really focused on this season. We have a lot to do and a lot to improve. We need to win games and then we will see next season.”

The “not my problem” remark by Amorim could be taken as a telling comment – although only time will tell for certain what happens with Sancho at Manchester United.
