A big new addition to next year’s squad.
Bayern Munich has signed Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Barbara Dunst to bolster the squad for the 2025/26 season and beyond.
Dunst, the Austrian Women’s Footballer of the Year in both 2023 and 2024, will join a midfield that includes the likes of Georgia Stanway, Lena Oberdorf, and Sarah Zadrazil but has badly needed more rotation options, as the past campaign has shown.
She arrives on a deal until June 2028 and will be the second straight summer addition direct from a Frauen-Bundesliga rival in the Bayern midfield. Unfortunately, like last season’s Lena Oberdorf, Dunst will be coming off a cruciate ligament tear before she suits up to play for the Bavarians, having suffered the injury on national team duty for Austria last December (as announced by the Eintracht website).
Prior to that, though, Dunst was a regular on the left side of Eintracht’s midfield and regularly involved in her team’s forays forward.
“Barbara is a complete player who can be used across the midfield and also poses a real goal threat,” promised FC Bayern Women director Bianca Rech in comments captured by FCBayern.com. “Her character but also her desire to win impressed us from the start. She’s a leader who takes responsibility on the pitch.
“We’ve got a bit of a tradition at Bayern with Austrian players. We’re happy to have her with us in Munich from the summer.”
Dunst spoke about her enthusiasm for Bayern in a video released on the club website.
“Here in Munich you have the opportunity to test yourself against the best teams in Europe. That’s an appealing challenge. It’s always been really important for me in the past that I show the best version of myself, develop and don’t feel stagnation. The club’s ambitions are therefore right for me,” she said.
Sounding like a player who will fit in perfectly!
