Should there be retirement calls? Or is it too soon?
Bayern Munich’s star keeping Manuel Neuer found himself off the squad for the first time in a while due to injury, however, the occurrences of these injury ‘sagas’ (because that’s what they become at FC Hollywood) are becoming more and more frequent with the aging keeper.
Neuer was on the road to recovery after he injured himself playing for Bayern, but recently stumbled on a major setback. According to a report captured by @iMiaSanMia, it happened when Neuer was training in order to get back to the pitch:
“After warming up, he did numerous catching drills, most of which were seated. But then, suddenly, Neuer couldn’t complete the session and had to stop 10 minutes earlier than planned due to a reaction in his calf. Neuer was supposed to resume team training next week and make his comeback against St. Pauli after the international, but now he’s a doubt for the game.”
The report also shed some light on who will take his place between the sticks for the upcoming game against FC St. Pauli, considering his setback and Jonas Urbig’s foot injury:
“Jonas Urbig, currently carrying a foot injury, is expected to resume training in around a week. It remains to be seen whether he will be fit in time for St. Pauli.”
It is becoming more and more apparent that Bayern Munich needs to find a long term replacement for Manuel Neuer, and a backup too. The goalkeeper depth chart is almost always never actually needed, but in situations like this the club would definitely want to have more options.
