Ex-Liverpool star blasts ‘deluded’ fans over Trent Alexander-Arnold criticism

Trent Alexander-Arnold has found an ally in Stephen Warnock amid a storm of social media criticism following reports that the Liverpool ace is set to make a switch to Real Madrid at the end of his contract this season.

The 26-year-old defender has been on Madrid’s radar for a while and, with his contract winding down, has been allowed to discuss terms with foreign clubs since January. It appears that an agreement with the Spanish team is now on the horizon.

Despite rumors that Alexander-Arnold is keen on the move, Liverpool has yet to be notified of any formal deal. Liverpool is eager to retain its academy product, who has been part of the club since he was six years old.

However, it seems increasingly challenging to keep him as Madrid edge closer to securing its prime summer target. The fanbase has flooded social media with reactions to the unfolding situation.

Yet Warnock has expressed disappointment over some of the “deluded” remarks aimed at Alexander-Arnold. “Can’t believe the negativity directed towards Trent Alexander-Arnold and his potential move away from LFC. I’ve seen comments like ‘he should be ashamed’ and he’s ‘not loyal to the club’ are deluded,” Warnock wrote in a post on X.

“He’s entitled to make his own choices and challenge himself in a different league and different country. He’s won everything with LFC, been an incredible servant to the club and should be given a great send off by the fans.”

As Alexander-Arnold inches toward a departure, attention will inevitably shift to Liverpool’s efforts to retain Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk, whose contracts also expire at season’s end. Both players have voiced their wish to prolong their Anfield careers beyond this term. However, similar to the Alexander-Arnold situation, no deal has been finalized despite months of talks.

Arne Slot has maintained a consistent stance when quizzed about the future of the trio this season: he wants them all to remain. The Dutch manager’s team is set to face Everton in the Merseyside derby next Wednesday.

Currently, the Reds hold a comfortable 12-point lead over Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table with just nine matches left to play.
