Luis Diaz’s camp feel as if they could be forced to find a move for the winger to leave Liverpool this summer, TBR Football can reveal.

Diaz has made 43 appearances and impressed during Arne Slot’s first season at Liverpool, however links between the Colombian and a move to Barcelona have seldom gone away.

Slot was immediately impressed by Diaz at Liverpool shortly after he arrived at Anfield, and the winger has scored 13 goals and provided five assists under his tutelage.

However, the 28-year-old will only have one-year left on his contract in the summer – the latest difficult situation for Richard Hughes and his team to address.

Luis Diaz ready to leave Liverpool if new contract doesn’t arrive

That being said, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey understands that Diaz’s agents have told Liverpool that they will seek an exit this summer if a new contract offer does not materialise.

Diaz has wanted to sign a new Liverpool contract since last year and his father and representatives believed that his form this season would signal a new deal.

And whilst Liverpool are open to the idea, talks with Diaz have not progressed despite regular conversations with other parties.

It’s understood that Liverpool have been told by Diaz’s camp that Barcelona are interested – but they are not alone.

Clubs in Italy and the Saudi Pro League after also keeping tabs on the Colombian’s situation on Merseyside.

Liverpool not impressed by Luis Diaz contract negotiations

On Liverpool’s part, the club have pushed Diaz’s contract situation to the back of the queue, given their priority has been needed elsewhere.

It’s very well known that Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk will all be out of contract at the end of the season as things stand.

Liverpool did their best to keep Alexander-Arnold, even if it does now appear as if he’ll be joining Real Madrid.

And Liverpool have been working hard to keep Salah and Van Dijk too – explaining why Diaz’s situation has been put on the back-burner to some extent.

As a result, Liverpool are also less than enamoured with how things have been brokered by Diaz’s camp so far.

A delicate situation, but one that can still be resolved in favour of the winger remaining at Anfield.
