French football fans have been reacting to the performance of Mathys Tel after watching him score a brace against Slovakia U21.
Mathys Tel scored twice as France’s U21 beat Slovakia 4-0 and the display of the Tottenham Hotspur forward really caught the eye of those watching.
The Frenchman has had a tricky start to life in North London, however, two goals should do his confidence a great deal of good.
Tel, who watched Spurs teammate Wilson Odobert impress against England U21, produced a strong performance of his own, which has left supporters tipping him to have a great future.
Mathys Tel scores twice for France’s U21
Tel netted a three-minute brace, with his first goal coming after 21 minutes as he cut inside from the left and cruled his effort into the far right corner.
On minute 24, the striker made a brilliant run in behind the defence and managed to chip his shot over the head of Adam Danko.
Tottenham are believed to be ‘very happy’ with Tel despite scoring just once for the club, and it’s clear to see why the North London club rate him so highly.
French football fans predict Mathys Tel could become future star for national team
French football fans are predicting that Tel could become the future number nine for the national team after his brace.
Tottenham supporters also had their say on the 19-year-old’s performance, who they will hope can now kick on in the final stages of the season.
After the match, French fans took to X to share their admiration for the forward and to predict big things for the teenager.
One fan said: “I believe in Mathys Tel, and for me, he will have his part to play at the 2026 World Cup. The French team is sorely lacking a true number 9, and I don’t see Mbappe in this role.
“Tel has the profile, the talent and the progression to establish himself in this position. If he continues on this path, he could well be the surprise of 2026. One to watch closely.”
Meanwhile, another Tottenham supporter claimed: “Such a good finisher man, I fully believe he’s an elite talent. We’re platforming him so badly right now, though. Too wide on the left, so he’s nowhere near the goal, which is where he’s so threatening. Centrally, he’s being asked to be a target man, which doesn’t suit him either.”
“He is the future number nine for France if all goes well,” claimed another French fan.
There was yet more praise for Tel: “He proves once again that he has everything it takes to be a future great.”
Speaking about his goal, another added: “Very accurate and clever little chip from Mathys Tel, who scores a double after only 23 minutes.
