The perils of the March international break rear their head again.
The March international break has been a terrifying prospect for many clubs for many years, given its’ position right in the middle of the business end of the season and the potential for some really inconvenient injuries to occur. Dutch full back Denzel Dumfries was one such victim, suffering an injury that sees him return to his club Inter Milan hurt and unavailable. In fact, the injury is so bad that he is said to be a big doubt for the Italian champions’ first leg against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, via fcinternews:
As explained by the Gazzetta dello Sport , the tests the former PSV player underwent yesterday reflected the diagnosis already communicated by the Oranje national team : a strain to the biceps femoris of the right thigh. The prediction of the pink paper is however more severe than those circulated yesterday. “Having completely excluded the possibility of seeing him back on the pitch before the first leg of the Champions League against Bayern, even a hypothetical return to Bavaria on April 8 appears very problematic. For this reason, it is likely that the flying Dutchman will be available at full capacity only for the return to San Siro.”
In Dumfries’ four years at Inter Milan, he has grown to become a regular starter and a very important player for manager Simone Inzaghi. Losing him for even one match would be a big blow to Inter. But, given that the matches against Bayern are still weeks away, it may be too soon to make any judgements on Dumfries’ health for the games against Bayern.
Regardless, hopefully Dumfries makes a speedy and full recovery.
