Jadon Sancho now playing for his Chelsea future but it may be over already – opinion

Jadon Sancho started life as a Chelsea player very well in his first few games, making a really positive impact. Most of us were pleased with how he was performing.

But then his performances dropped off a cliff edge and recently he has been nothing more than very poor.

The whole situation around his loan deal seems very strange to me, with contrasting reporting on it.

David Ornstein of The Athletic has confirmed that Chelsea can break the obligation to buy Sancho by simply paying £5m to Manchester United, which is nothing at all in the grand scheme of things. I always hate saying things like that because to you and me, £5m is life changing but in football it is pocket money. It’s so SO wrong. But anyway, I digress as I often do….

Chelsea have an obligation to buy Sancho for £25m as long as they finish above 14th in the league and as of today, they are still planning to buy him. However, as I reported last week, a lot will now depend how he performs from now until the end of the season, and the plans to buy him could change.

So, what do you want to see happen with Sancho?

For me, I am taking a seat on the fence and would answer ‘not sure for now’ because I do want to give him a chance. I’ve always thought Sancho has so much ability but he seems to be yet another confidence player and when he’s down, he is awful. But I am willing to give him the rest of this season before I make my mind up on what I would do. We do need the quality depth and impact players and on form, he could certainly be that. But would that suffice for him? Probably not.

£5m is nothing as I say. But I’m happy to just wait it out and then I’d make my decision at the end of the season. I guess it also depends on what happens with other players like Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke, who I could still see being sold. Chelsea might also buy Sancho to flip a profit and if that is possible, then that could be smart too.
