Liverpool has reportedly opened talks to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold’s replacement as the right-back nears a move to Real Madrid.

Real Madrid have reportedly accelerated negotiations in recent hours and is set to secure Trent Alexander-Arnold’s signing for the upcoming season. With the star’s departure looking imminent, Liverpool are reportedly initiating talks to find his replacement.

One of Liverpool’s main concerns this season, aside from dealing with Jurgen Klopp’s potential departure, has been the expiring contracts of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Alexander-Arnold. With little progress made on renewing the contracts of these key players, Alexander-Arnold may have decided to pursue his career elsewhere.

As Fabrizio Romano reported on Tuesday, Real Madrid are closing in on an agreement to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold as a free agent. Interest in the player has been ongoing since last year, but it now seems closer than ever. In light of this, Liverpool are being forced to push for a top-tier replacement ahead of next season.

Jeremie Frimpong, Liverpool’s top target

Sky Sports’ Sacha Tavolieri reported on Monday that Jeremie Frimpong remains Liverpool’s top target to replace Alexander-Arnold. The Bayer Leverkusen star is highly regarded by coach Arne Slot, who is looking for a more offensive approach on the right side.

Among all options, Liverpool have already made significant progress, having started talks with Frimpong’s representatives and engaged in regular discussions via messages. Furthermore, as Tavolieri reports, an in-person meeting could take place in the coming weeks to discuss personal terms.

Despite the ongoing rumors, Liverpool have yet to submit an official offer for the right back from Bayer Leverkusen. Frimpong’s value is set at €50 million, according to Transfermarkt, and the Reds are expected to submit an initial offer in that range.

Frimpong has established himself as one of the most prolific right-backs in Europe with Bayer Leverkusen, having registered 4 goals and 11 assists in 40 games this season. With Connor Bradley as the natural replacement for Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool will be eager to secure a top-class signing like the Dutchman.
