Video of Santiago Gimenez hobbling into the locker room caused concern among the Milan supporters, even as Mexico’s national team celebrated a historic 2-1 win over Panama in the CONCACAF Nations League final. These images caused immediate concern among the Rossoneri fans, who feared their January signing might have suffered an injury just before returning to Italy.

Gimenez played nearly the entire match, only being substituted in second-half stoppage time. Having been a key figure in Mexico’s campaign, the sight of him struggling to walk after the final whistle raised questions about whether he had picked up a serious knock or if it was merely a case of exhaustion.

With the Red and Blacks set to face Napoli in a crucial Serie A clash immediately after the international break, any injury to the 23-year-old striker would be a significant blow for Sergio Conceicao’s side. The team is currently ninth in the league with 47 points, making their upcoming fixtures vital in their push for European qualification.

Is Gimenez’s injury serious? Milan awaits medical updates

Following the match, Mexican sports outlet TV Azteca Deportes released footage of Gimenez limping, fueling speculation that he might have sustained a serious injury. However, reports from MilanNews and Sky Italia have since provided a more reassuring outlook.

According to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, the striker has already returned to Italy, where he is set to undergo a medical evaluation with Milan’s staff to determine the extent of his condition. The early signs, however, suggest that his situation is not alarming. “Gimenez’s fitness condition does not look worrying, and there is a possibility that an injury could just turn out to be a minor knock or fatigue,” the report states.

Further confirmation came from Corriere dello Sport. The Italian newspaper suggested that the club’s medical team is not expecting any major problems, though they will still conduct routine tests to ensure the forward is fit for selection.

Just fatigue? Mexican medical staff provide no injury reports

Adding to the growing optimism surrounding Gimenez’s condition, there has been no official communication from the Tricolor medical staff to Milan regarding any injuries, the report confirmed. This lack of concern from Mexico’s side further indicates that the issue is likely just fatigue rather than a significant physical problem.

Gimenez played back-to-back matches against Canada and Panama in quick succession, both of which were physically demanding encounters. Given his heavy workload, muscle fatigue would not be surprising.

Once back at Milanello, the striker will undergo final assessments before resuming regular training with his teammates in preparation for Milan’s upcoming away fixture against Napoli on Sunday.
