It’s what Liverpool fans have feared for months, but multiple reports now claim Trent Alexander-Arnold has agreed to join Real Madrid at the end of the season.
The right-back’s contract is set to expire this summer and the player is free to agree terms with European clubs. Real saw a January bid turned down for the player and there has been a widely held view for several months that Alexander-Arnold will leave, despite talks over a new contract taking place with Liverpool.
But reports emerged on Monday that Alexander-Arnold was set to leave, prompting a wave of speculation on X. The most prominent report came from Sky France, who stated a move to Madrid was now ‘settled’ for the 26-year-old, whose agents had ‘finally reached an agreement’ on a five-year deal worth €15m ($16.1m/£12.5m) per annum.
The report added an ‘agreement in principle’ had been reached and hope of an extension at Liverpool had ‘faded’ with ‘nothing able to change the Englishman’s mind’.
On Tuesday, talkSPORT became the first UK outlet to report something similar. The radio station claims terms have been agreed for a five-year contract worth £220,000-per-week ($285,000-per-week).
The outlet clams that Alexander-Arnold ‘has been in discussions with Real since January’, when the La Liga giants had a bid rejected by Liverpool for his signature.
Meanwhile, never one to miss out on a major transfer story, Fabrizio Romano reposted his initial report in March last year that Real was interested in Alexander Arnold and stated it is now ‘deal on’.

Fresh reports could emerge in the coming days and hours, but until anything is confirmed, it’s a transfer saga that is likely to rumble on.
Liverpool will no doubt be preparing for his possible departure which will mean the club will make moves in the market. Jeremie Frimpong is a player the Reds like and hold an interest in if Alexander-Arnold leaves, although many feel Conor Bradley is the ready-made replacement.
In the meantime, Alexander-Arnold won’t be involved in Liverpool’s next game, which comes at home to Everton on April 2. An ankle injury suffered two weeks ago against Paris Saint-Germain has ruled him out for the time being. There’s every chance, by the next time the academy graduate takes to the pitch, that a major announcement has been made.
