Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly set to put pen-to-paper on a $16.2 million-a-year deal that will run until 2030 with Real Madrid this summer.
The 26-year-old has been continuously linked with a move to the La Liga giants at the end of the 2024-25 season after entering the final 12 months of his Liverpool contract at the start of the campaign, with the latest reports now all but confirming his highly-anticipated switch to the Spanish capital. According to various outlets, Alexander-Arnold has agreed personal terms over a five-year deal.
It’s been claimed that the Reds right-back will earn in excess of $285,000-per-week with Carlo Ancelotti’s side, an upgrade of around $50,000-per-week on his current Liverpool deal, which is believed to be around the $233,000 mark – putting him on a salary of just over $12m-a-year. Furthermore, he is set to receive an extra little present for agreeing to sign with Real Madrid.
According to Sky Sports Switzerland, the Liverpool academy graduate will bank a signing bonus that has been described as “equivalent to a reasonable transfer fee.” Given that Real Madrid won’t be paying a penny to take him off Liverpool’s hands, it appears the club is happy to reward the defender with some of the money it has saved on him.
The reigning Champions League winner is also said to view the England international as its long-term replacement for vice-captain Dani Carvajal, who sustained a long-term injury back in October and has been ruled out of action ever since. Now 33, the Spanish international has just one year remaining on his Los Blancos contract.
As well as club captain Virgil van Dijk and star player Mohamed Salah, who are also out of contract at the end of the current campaign, Liverpool has made attempts to secure Alexander-Arnold’s long-term future. However, questions have been raised over why the situation was allowed to emerge in the first place, with it seemingly coming back to haunt the club.

Despite being a boyhood Liverpool fan and previously admitting his desire to build an Anfield legacy, Alexander-Arnold appears set to bring an end to his 20-year Reds career, having joined the club’s youth ranks as a six-year-old. It would appear the lure of a fresh challenge with arguably the world’s biggest club has been too hard to turn down.
His friendship with England teammate and Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham is also believed to have heavily influenced the right-back’s decision to move abroad, with the pair seemingly insperable during international breaks when reporting for Three Lions duty. They also holidayed together last summer.
Since joining Los Blancos in June 2023, Bellingham has won five trophies, including La Liga and the Champions League in his first season. It would now appear Alexander-Arnold wants some of the same, having won everything he could with the Reds during Jurgen Klopp’s highly successful tenure.
