Not only have Arsenal put together a superb squad out of world-class signings, but they’ve also done very well in promoting and developing academy stars.
Bukayo Saka has become a superstar for club and country after graduating from the Hale End setup.
And this season, two Arsenal academy stars have burst onto the scene – Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly.
Both players have made their breakthrough and are both regulars for the Gunners, with Lewis-Skelly now also an England international.
Arsenal expert Charles Watts has now shared what the expectation at the club is regarding the futures of both players.
Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly expected to sign new Arsenal contracts soon
Watts has revealed that contract talks should take place soon between Arsenal and Lewis-Skelly, as well as with Nwaneri.
Indeed, the expectation at Arsenal is that both players will sign contracts “relatively soon”, given both are loving life at N5 and the club loves them both.
“Contract talks will progress with several players over the next few months and Lewis-Skelly is one of them,” Watts wrote on CaughtOffside.
“The hope is both he and Ethan Nwaneri will sign new long-term deals relatively soon as a reward for the progress they have shown this season.
“I can’t really see there being any problem when it comes to getting those deals done.
“Both are loving life at Arsenal right now and Arsenal are obviously delighted with both of their Hale End products.
“It should be a matter of when, rather than if, the deals are signed.”
Ray Parlour’s Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly prediction
At the start of the campaign, neither Nwaneri nor Lewis-Skelly would’ve expected to play as many minutes as they have for Arsenal first team this season.
However, injuries have opened the door for them to come in, and the two teenagers have exceeded expectations in the famous red and white.
Indeed, Ray Parlour thinks Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly have shocked everyone with their performances and progress this season, and has backed them to go very far in the game.
“I think they have really shocked everyone,” said the Highbury legend.
“Sometimes, you need that little bit of luck with certain injuries. Obviously, they have been training well with the first team.
“At one stage, Arteta has probably said, ‘I’ve got to give them a go’, and they haven’t looked back, really. I’m really pleased for them.
“It’s early in their careers. It’s a big, long, hard route in front of them to become top, top stars of football going forward.
“But if they can get the right people around them and keep working hard in training, which Mikel Arteta will demand I’m sure, they can be superstars because they’ve got everything going for them.”
