Liverpool could be set for one of the biggest transfer windows they’ve ever had this summer.

Indeed, with Trent Alexander-Arnold set to join Real Madrid in the summer, the Reds could have plenty of room in their wage bill, while Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk are also out of contract.

Meanwhile, Liverpool should have plenty of cash to spend this summer too.

Liverpool bid £111m for Moises Caicedo two years ago, and the bulk of that money still hasn’t been spent, while Liverpool also went for Martin Zubimendi in the summer, and that deal never came to fruition either.

Liverpool could spend big in the summer, and according to Chris Weatherspoon, speaking on the Walk On Podcast, the Reds should have enough cash to make a serious marquee signing.

Liverpool could afford Alexander Isak

According to the journalist, Liverpool should have the means to spend significantly this summer.

Weatherspoon says that Liverpool would have enough money to spend £150m on Alexander Isak should they wish to.

Liverpool have been linked with Isak recently, and it sounds as though this move could be feasible.

“If none of them stay, I would expect a really significant spend. If a couple of them stay and one goes, it is hard to say because obviously, we just don’t get reported that much compared to transfer fees, but actually wages are the biggest burden the clubs have to bear. I did put in the article and I wasn’t being mischievous, but the rumoured interest in Alexander Isak, even at his £150 million asking price, feasibly Liverpool could afford to pay it, whether they would or whether they should is obviously an entirely different matter.”

Liverpool’s record transfers

£150m for Alexander Isak would absolutely shatter Liverpool’s transfer record, but it’s not out of the realms of possibilities.

Indeed, Liverpool bid £111m for Moises Caicedo two years ago, so the Reds aren’t afraid to spend that sort of money when the right deal comes up.

Isak has been incredible for Newcastle this season, and there’s an argument to make that £150m would be decent value.

At £150m, Isak would be, by some distance, the most expensive player Liverpool have ever signed.

Liverpool’s record transfers Fee
1. Darwin Nunez £85m
2. Virgil van Dijk £75m
3. Alisson Becker £63m
4. Dominik Szoboszlai £60m
5. Naby Keita £57m

Of course, whether or not Liverpool go for this deal remains to be seen, but, by the sounds of things, the Reds could end up breaking their transfer record this summer, whether that’s to sign Isak, or another top player.
