West Ham United have had problems in the striking department for an eternity at this point.
Indeed, West Ham just can’t seem to get it right with their striker signings.
Sebastien Haller was a flop after he joined West Ham all those years ago, while Gianluca Scamacca also struggled at West Ham after his big-money move.
Niclas Fullkrug has struggled since signing for West Ham, and heading into the summer transfer window, Graham Potter has apparently identified an ideal striker signing for the Hammers.
According to Dean Jones, speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, Potter has told West Ham that he thinks Jonathan David would be the ideal striker for this team.
Graham Potter has told West Ham to sign Jonathan David
According to Jones, Potter has told West Ham that David would be his ideal signing.
David has been linked to West Ham for a long time, while the Canadian has also been linked to Tottenham.
Potter has apparently now told West Ham that the £25m man would be the ideal signing this summer.
“Yeah, I mean, it’s an interesting one because Premier League clubs have had the chance to sign him over the past 18 months and haven’t gone for it. Part of that is because there have been scouts that, for example, West Ham could have signed Jonathan David last year easily, and they turned down the opportunity. They felt it wasn’t a sure enough thing that he would score goals in the Premier League,” Jones said.
“So they signed Niclas Fullkrug instead.
“They signed Niclas Fullkrug, and now they’ve changed manager. Graham Potter has come in. They’ve sat down with him and had conversations about who would be the ideal striker for his team, and he told them, Jonathan David.”
Jonathan David stats for Lille
Potter believes that David would be the perfect signing for West Ham, and it’s easy to see why.
Indeed, David has been banging in the goals over in France for a long time now, and his stats show just how good he has been.
Jonathan David stats for Lille | |
---|---|
Games | 224 |
Goals | 107 |
Assists | 27 |
Unfortunately, if David does come in, that would probably be the end of the road for Evan Ferguson at West Ham, but after the Irishman has struggled to really get going at West Ham, that won’t be a huge issue.
Of course, whether or not West Ham can sign the Lille ace is another matter entirely.
David has been linked to some top clubs recently – Barcelona even want the striker, and if the Spanish giants are indeed in the mix, the Hammers may struggle to win this race.
