Liverpool is interested in signing Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso this summer as a possible replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, claims reports in Italy.

The defender was linked with a move to Manchester City in January but remained in Italy. That may not be the case this summer, though, with Gazzetta dello Sport stating the full-back could be sold in order to bail Juventus out of its financial issues.

The club reportedly needs to raise €30million (£25M/$32M) before the end of June to comply with financial regulations, with Cambiaso seen as the club’s most valuable asset. Gazzetta states terms had been agreed between the player and City earlier this year but Juventus hopes to entice a bidding war between several of Europe’s top clubs this summer, with a sale in the region of €60M (£50M/$64M).

Bayern Munich is said to have an interest, while Liverpool may join the race for the 25-year-old.

Speaking in January, Juventus’ sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli hinted that the club would consider offers for the player. “We’ve not received any official bid yet,” he said. “If it arrives, we will decide what to do. We’re focusing on new signings more than on exits for this window.” However, former manager Thiago Motta did say Cambiasso was among four players he would not consider selling.

Cambiaso has played 35 times this season for Juventus, with an ankle issue keeping him out for a period over winter. He has scored two goals and provided three assists from those appearances.

The Italian, who has earned 13 international caps, is comfortable playing on either flank, which could make him attractive for Liverpool who may be in the market for a right-back and a left-back.

Alexander-Arnold is expected to join Real Madrid this summer while concerns have been raised about Andy Robertson’s form over the 2024/25 season. City, meanwhile, could be in the market for defensive recruitment this summer with Kyle Walker likely to join AC Milan, in what could be part of a series of widespread transfer alternations at the Etihad.

Bayern might also be on the lookout for extra cover in the full-back after Alhonso Davies tore his ACL, although the recent news that Joshua Kimmich has penned a new deal at the club does lighten the concern at right-back.

As for Cambiaso, he joined Juventus in 2022 from Genoa and has made 74 appearances for the Old Lady. Last season he was part of the side that won the Italian Cup.
