Liverpool fans are facing up to one of their worst nightmares with the news that Trent Alexander-Arnold looks to be heading to Real Madrid. What’s even more concerning is he might not be the only one eyeing up a move to the Bernabeu.
Alexander-Arnold’s exit from Anfield looks inevitable now, with reports of an impending move to Madrid coming to a head on Tuesday after months of speculation. Although there is no confirmation from either Liverpool or Real at this point, it does seem as though it will be a matter of time before the deal is announced.
The move, understandably, has not been welcomed by Reds fans. Losing one of your best players for nothing is always going to hurt, even more so when it’s a player who has come through the ranks.
The situation could be made even worse still. Like Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah’s contracts are due to expire soon, and they could also end up looking for new clubs in the summer.
Losing all three would be a massive blow to Liverpool, and fans will not want to see any more big names making an exit any time soon, especially not to Madrid again. Well, they might well have to prepare themselves for that eventuality.
While Alexander-Arnold looks to be heading to Spain this summer, Alexis Mac Allister might decide to join him at some point in the future. The midfielder, who has been a crucial member of the squad since joining Liverpool in 2023, has already spoken this season about the possibility of making the move to La Liga.
“Yes, why not?,” he replied when questioned on the subject by AS. “It’s a country I like a lot and I’ve visited it several times, and, above all, because of the language and the culture, it’s very similar to Argentina. I would definitely like to play in Spain one day.”
If Mac Allister is to head to Spain, then there’s every chance he could join Alexander-Arnold in Madrid. Los Blancos have been linked with the Argentine previously, and there is some clear admiration for the club from the former Brighton man.
“Dreams are there to be fulfilled, I have been achieving things that even in my best dreams I could not have imagined and I am very happy for my present,” he said after scoring against Real in this season’s Champions League.

“I enjoy it very much and I am grateful for life. It was special to beat a club like Real Madrid, with so much history and with the team that they have, the players and the individuals that they have.”
The good news for Liverpool fans is they shouldn’t have to worry about Mac Allister leaving any time soon. “Right now, I’m very comfortable at Liverpool and I don’t think about what might happen in the future,” he said in that same interview with AS.
Having said that, Alexander-Arnold never publicly entertained the idea of moving to another club, but he looks to be on the verge of making a big U-turn. Hopefully Mac Allister won’t be thinking of doing anything similar soon.
