Brazilian media slammed a Premier League star.

A Premier League star was torn to shreds by Brazilian media following his performance in his national team’s crushing defeat to Argentina.

Brazil suffered a bruising 4-1 defeat to Argentina, who secured a famous win in their World Cup qualifier on Wednesday.

Julian Alvarez opened the scoring and aimed a brutal Lionel Messi dig following the result.

Premier League stars Enzo Fernandez and Alexis Mac Allister also got on the score-sheet, with Giuliano Simeone adding a fourth in the second-half.

Brazil fielded their own English-based stars as Wolves’ Matheus Cunha pulled one back for his team.

Nottingham Forest defender Murillo made his international debut, having starred at Nottingham Forest this season.

Joelinton also started the World Cup qualifier after inspiring Newcastle United to Carabao Cup glory over Liverpool.

But the Newcastle midfielder failed to impress in the middle of the park and was slammed for his outing by Brazilian media.

He was dragged off at the break, with Globo Esporte pulling no punches in their assessment of the player as they also referenced his showing against Colombia last Friday.

Globo gave Joelinton a score of 3/10, which was the joint-lowest given to any player alongside Murillo and Guilherme Arana.

On Joelinton, the publication wrote: “He had already performed poorly against Colombia and repeated the poor performance against Argentina. Overloaded, he was slow in his pursuit and was unable to reduce the space available to the opposing midfielders. He stopped an opponent’s counterattack in the 43rd minute and should have received a yellow card. Another yellow card was taken off at half-time.”

Joelinton’s recent performances in a Brazil shirt have left a lot to be desired.

The 28-year-old made his international debut in June 2023 and has seven international caps to his name.

Joelinton has shone for Newcastle since transitioning to a midfielder. He has made 32 appearances across all competitions this season.
