Second time’s the charm?
One of the more surprising transfer rumors of the January transfer window was the alleged swap deal that was supposed to take place between Bayern Munich and Chelsea FC regarding Mathys Tel and Christopher Nkunku. Ultimately, the deal never really took off as talks of a swap deal headed to a permanent transfer for Nkunku — with a €77 million price tag. Needless to say, that completely killed any negotiations.
However, it was reported Bayern had agreed personal terms with the former Bundesliga player, who was left disappointed at the collapsed move, via a report by Sport Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia):
Christopher Nkunku was very disappointed that a potential move to Bayern fell through in January as Max Eberl had already convinced him of his plans. Eberl then informed Nkunku that the move wasn’t financially feasible. The Frenchman could be a topic again in the summer.
Nkunku remains a fairly peripheral figure at Chelsea, so a summer move may not be a far-fetched idea. But if a deal is to be made, the asking price from Chelsea needs to drop dramatically.
