Is Jonathan Burkardt the answer at Bayern Munich?
Last Thursday, we started to see rumors emerge that Bayern Munich had interested in Mainz 05 striker Jonathan Burkardt.
With Harry Kane’s future at least somewhat uncertain heading into next season (and definitely in doubt for 2026/27), it makes sense that the Bavarians would be seeking to find a “striker of the future.”
Well, according to a report from Sport Bild journalists Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich is, indeed, interested in Burkardt, but could have trouble corralling him because he wants guarantee for playing time — and has interest from several clubs that could probably provide that assurance:
Jonathan Burkardt has been on Bayern’s list for quite some time. He was already discussed internally as a potential new signing last summer. Frankfurt, Leipzig and Leverkusen are showing concrete interest for this summer. The problem from Bayern’s perspective is that Burkardt wants guarantees of game time, which is complicated behind with Harry Kane. Burkardt has a €20m release clause in his contract.
Burkardt is an interesting name, but the Bavarians will need a clear idea on what Kane’s future plans are. As of now, it has been assumed that Kane would probably stay with Bayern Munich for at least one more season. However, recent rumors indicate that Kane could be considering a move back to England as soon as this summer.
Will Bayern Munich need to expedite its plans?
