Mono ain’t easy and needs to be treated very delicately.

Aleksandar Pavlović’s surprising withdrawal from the Bayern Munich first team just before the match against VfB Stuttgart in the Bundesliga happened around a month ago. Since then, the 20-year-old has had to sit on the sidelines and watch Germany and Bayern make do without his services, unable to train or do anything but rest. That time is now over, though, according to Florian Plettenberg and Kerry Hau, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, as the road to his eventual comeback starts:

Aleksandar Pavlović is working on his comeback and has now begun light strength training. The 20-year-old is being continuously monitored by the club’s doctors to avoid any risks. Pavlović is currently feeling well and has set his sights on returning to the squad this season. He also wants to play at the Club World Cup in the summer.

Bild’s initial report suggested that the Bayern youth product would be out for a maximum of six weeks…two weeks ago. Hopefully that prognosis is still valid and his road to recovery will not take even longer, but the suggestion that he is looking to return “this season” is terrifyingly vague. Bayern will need him in the run in as the club looks to reach the Champions League final and secure the Bundesliga title.
