The Premier League has announced the creation of an extra transfer window in the summer to accommodate FIFA’s Club World Cup.
At a Premier League shareholders’ meeting in central London on Thursday, clubs voted to open the window on June 1 before closing it again on June 10.
This will enable Chelsea and Manchester City — the only English top-flight sides competing in FIFA’s revamped competition in the United States this summer — to bring new players in ahead of the tournament.

Other Premier League clubs will also be able to sign and sell players during the registration period.
After closing on June 10, the Premier League also confirmed that it will reopen on June 16 and remain open until September 1.
There had been a discussion about the summer transfer window closing before the 2025-26 season begins on August 16, something sporting directors were in favour of when they met earlier this year. Shareholders pushed back, however, as it is something they felt would need alignment across the European leagues.
The Premier League’s rules stipulate that the transfer window can only be open for a maximum of 16 weeks throughout the year, which is split into four weeks in January and 12 weeks in the summer.
In October, FIFA, world football’s governing body, unanimously approved a proposal that would allow national associations the option of creating an “exceptional registration window” from June 1 to June 10.
The new transfer window will close four days before the FIFA Club World Cup begins on June 14 in Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium, with MLS side Inter Miami playing Egyptian club Al Ahly.
