Liverpool have identified a Newcastle United defender as a potential alternative to Jeremie Frimpong as they prepare for life without Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Talks over a deal for Trent Alexander-Arnold to join Real Madrid have advanced with the 15-time European champions closing in on the free transfer.
The Reds have now started plans to replace the 26-year-old and have identified several targets who they are now assessing.
One of those targets is a player from Newcastle who has really impressed on Tynseside this season, although prisining him away from St James’ Park could be tricky.

Liverpool appreciate Newcastle United right-back Tino Livramento, according to GiveMeSport.
However, there is also trust from Liverpool in Conor Bradley and the Reds are now strongly considering promoting him to first choice.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has spoken highly of Bradley and his comments suggest that the 21-year-old could be the perfect replacement should he leave for Madrid.
There is also the fact that Eddie Howe views Livramento, who cost Newcastle £32m, as ‘untouchable’ and therefore, the Tynseside club are highly unlikely to sanction a sale of the 22-year-old.
Arne Slot is also keen on Jeremie Frimpong and has told the club to start work on a deal for the 24-year-old, who has been superb for Bayer Leverkusen.
How do Tino Livramento and Jeremie Frimpong compare
Both full-backs offer something quite different and it will be up to Liverpool as to what kind of defender they are looking for to replace Trent.
Jeremie Frimpong has played most of his matches for Leverkusen as a right midfielder and is a very strong attacking option, given his nine goal contributions.

Meanwhile, the Newcastle defender would offer a more rounded player as there are question marks over the Dutch international’s ability to defend.
Frimpong would be quite a close direct replacement for the Liverpool academy star, but Livramento offers a much a balance between attack and defence along with having Premier League experience.
