Obi and Sakho both plied their trade in the Premier League in the 2010s, the former shining for Chelsea and the latter turning out for Liverpool.

Both players experienced first hand what it was like to play at some of England’s most intimidating and impressive stadiums.

Obi spoke about the stadium he found most intimidating during his career as he conversed with Sakho, who made a surprising claim about Liverpool on the podcast.

Obi, speaking on the Obi One podcast, asked Sakho who he felt was the best player at Liverpool at this moment in time.

Sakho named a number of players he liked, such as Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold, but ultimately went for Anfield as his ‘best player’.

Obi replied: “The atmosphere is always amazing there. The toughest atmosphere every time for me as a player.

“I’ve played in so many stadiums but every time we come to play there, the first 20 minutes I’m still shaking.

“Very, very special stadium, unbelievable.”

What other football figures have said about Anfield

Some of the world’s best players and managers have waxed lyrical about Anfield over the decades, as per This Is Anfield.

For instance, Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson once said: “Anfield. Electric.

“It’s a marvellous atmosphere. You have to expect that atmosphere even if you’re losing. It was a really volatile atmosphere.”

Meanwhile, Thierry Henry once said: “I’ve played in a lot of stadiums but for me there is nothing like playing at Liverpool.

“Nothing can beat Highbury, of course, but playing at Anfield was great.

“The fans always sing and hold up their scarves before and after the game – whether they have won or lost. It must be amazing if you are a Liverpool player.”
