This is kind of crazy…
According to an in depth report from Joshua Kloke of The Athletic (via @iMiaSanMia), no one thought Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies was seriously hurt in the match against the USMNT last weekend — including Davies:
After he was subbed off with injury, Davies eventually returned to be with his Canada team, practically assisting Jesse Marsch with animated sideline direction for his teammates.
There was no evident sense of pain from the player or any body language to suggest he immediately understood he experienced a serious injury
Davies, Marsch and the rest of Canada Soccer flew out of Los Angeles Monday morning believing that there was little cause for concern for their captain.
Surely, everyone was dumbfounded with just how injured Davies was — and now it could be worse. Bild (via @iMiaSanMia) is reporting that Davies could be out as long as eight months:
Alphonso Davies not only tore his ACL but also suffered knee cartilage damage. He’s already undergone successful surgery. His time off is expected to be at least 6 months and in the worst case up to 8 months.
If that is truly the case, Bayern Munich should heavily consider shutting down Davies until January.
