Liverpool have had to experience their fair share of heartbreaking moments in recent years.
John Stones’ goalline clearance back in 2019 cost Liverpool the Premier League title, Loris Karius’ mistakes in Kyiv in 2018 cost the Reds the Champions League, while their penalty shootout loss vs PSG earlier this month was another bitter pill to swallow.
However, all of those moments pale in comparison to Steven Gerrard’s infamous slip back in 2014.
Heading into the final games of the season, Liverpool were in pole position to win the Premier League, but Gerrard’s slip against Chelsea cost the Reds in a crucial moment.
This moment has lived forever in the memory of Liverpool fans, and speaking on the Obi One Podcast, Mamadou Sakho has recalled this moment and how Gerrard reacted.
What Steven Gerrard said to everyone after his slip vs Chelsea
Sakho recounted how Gerrard reacted after his slip.
The defender says that Gerrard was massively disappointed after this moment, revealing that the England star simply said ‘sorry’ to all of the Liverpool players after this game.
“He was disappointed. You know, all of us were. But he’s a man, you understand. He checked on all of the players and he said sorry, but all of us said ‘oh, come on, without you we wouldn’t be in second position.’ It happens. Stevie G was like our older brother,” Sakho said.

Gerrard’s slip was costly for Liverpool in the moment during the Chelsea game, but what the Liverpool captain did for the remainder of the match was also just as painful to watch.
Gerrard was clearly desperate to make up for his error, and he was trying to force a moment of magic to level things up.
The midfielder was attempting a number of pot shots and a lot of ambitious passes during the game, but Chelsea found it all too easy to deal with.

Gerrard is one of Liverpool’s greatest ever players, but this was not his finest hour in a Liverpool shirt.
To make matters worse, this was a game against Chelsea. Gerrard almost joined Chelsea and Jose Mourinho just a few years prior, and he would then have his lowest moment in a Liverpool shirt against the Blues.
